RESUMO:

The oil industry is responsible for a large share in the energy matrix, however, during oil production, produced water is also generated. This water has a complex composition and high volumes of this pollutant are generated. Therefore, when discarded inappropriately, it can cause some environmental problems, such as contamination of aquatic environments and soil contamination, causing damage to the health of living beings. Furthermore, this effluent is also a problem on an industrial scale, since managing this water results in considerably high costs, which represent a significant percentage of production costs. Therefore, several processes are used to treat this effluent, among which the adsorption process stands out, as it is efficient in treating water contaminated by oil, heavy metals and other toxic substances. Among the adsorbent materials, zeolites stand out as they have a large ion exchange capacity and adsorption power for metal cations, in addition to being fast and low-cost synthetic materials. Therefore, the objective of this work was to develop zeolitic materials and apply them to the treatment of water produced from the company Potiguar located in the city of Mossoró – RN. The zeolites LTA, Y and sodalite were synthesized by hydrothermal treatment. The zeolitic materials were characterized by the techniques of X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), thermogravimetric analysis (TG/DTG), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), nitrogen adsorption/desorption at 77 K and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), to determine its structural, chemical, thermal, morphological and textural properties. In addition, the produced water was collected, which also underwent physical-chemical analyzes based on Standard Methods. According to the results obtained, it was observed that the adaptation of the Y zeolite synthesis was promising, as the material was obtained in just 48 hours of synthesis. The crystalline and morphological structures of zeolites were confirmed, respectively, through XRD and SEM. The Si/Al ratio was within the standards found in the literature and the TG/DTG curves, as well as the nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms and the FTIR bands, were also in accordance with what was expected for each material. While the water produced demonstrated results superior to the limits allowed by CONAMA resolutions nº 430/2011, mainly for the concentration of barium. However, after treatment, it was found that LTA zeolite had good ion exchange capacity in removing barium from produced water.
