RESUMO:

Discussions about the energy matrix, growing population in parallel with sustainable development are challenges for today's society. Energy production demands a lot from the environment, since the main energy sources most used in the world come directly from the environment and are exhaustible. Hence the urgency of using alternative and renewable sources that ensure sustainability in the social, economic and environmental sense. In this sense, solar energy presents itself as one of the most promising sources to diversify the current matrices, as its advantages are expressive, especially when compared to the usual sources. Therefore, its growth is increasingly notorious globally and locally. Thus, the general objective of this work was to analyze the process of expansion of photovoltaic solar energy from 2015 to 2020 in Mossoró/RN; in addition to conducting a geospatial analysis of photovoltaic installations by neighborhoods in the municipality of Mossoró between the years 2015-2020; punctuate the main social, economic and environmental advantages and disadvantages linked to solar activity; compare the expansion of photovoltaic solar energy in the city of Mossoró/RN with other municipalities located in the semi-arid Northeast, between the years 2015 to 2020 and also apply an environmental perception questionnaire on the expansion of solar energy to residents/entrepreneurs in the city of Mossoró/RN. For this, the methodology was based on a characterization of the study area and, as methodological procedures, bibliographic research was used on platforms such as Platform of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), Scielo Brazil, Google Scholar and websites institutional and organizational. For this purpose, maps were generated based on data from the Georeferenced Information System for the Electric Sector (SIGEL) in Microsoft Power BI software to achieve proposed geospatial analyzes and comparisons between municipalities in the semiarid region. In addition, it is estimated that the application of environmental perception questionnaires through Google forms as a tool for obtaining data will take place in the months of October to December 2021. As partial results, two tables were generated containing the main advantages and disadvantages of solar energy, in addition to discussing the facilitators for the adoption and popularization of solar energy, listed in a box. Furthermore, it was possible to verify through the geospatial analysis that there is a concentration of adhesion to solar plates in a certain, and small, group of neighborhoods in the city of Mossoró/RN, where the condominiums of residents with greater purchasing power and in In contrast, most neighborhoods are sluggish and recent. Still, on the comparison with other cities in the semiarid region, it is seen that the city of Petrolina/PE has the most similar numbers to Mossoró, both in terms of residential and commercial adhesions; however, despite different data when comparing the other cities, an evolution is seen in all of them. Brazil, as well as other countries, show an exponential growth in the adhesion of solar energy, with Mossoró, an inland city, contributing to this popularization.
