RESUMO:

Ethnobotany is the study of the relationships between plants and humans, in which the knowledge built up over time comes from direct contact with these resources, and is passed on from generation to generation. Ethnobotanical studies of medicinal plants are increasingly important, as they enable the identification of plant species with therapeutic potential, promote knowledge of the local flora of a given region, and contribute to the conservation of biodiversity, the rescue and appreciation of the traditional knowledge of the populations. The objective of this study was to carry out an ethnobotanical survey on the use of medicinal plants by residents of the Oziel Alves/Maisa Settlement, rural area of Mossoró-RN. To obtain the data, socioeconomic questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, free lists and guided tours were applied. In this study, 49 ethnospecies were cited, distributed in 29 families, 41 genera and 51 species. The Lamiaceae family was the most representative. The most cited species were Cocos nucifera L., Anacardium occidentale L., Citrus x limon (L.) Osbeck, Aloe vera (L.) Burm. f. and Malpighia glabra L. The species that obtained the highest CUPc were Citrus x limon (L.) Osbeck and Malpighia glabra L. Regarding the value in use (VU), Cocos nucifera L., Anacardium occidentale L., Citrus x limon (L.) Osbeck, Aloe vera (L.) Burm. f. and Malpighia glabra L. stood out. The part of the plant most used by the informants is the leaf and the most cited form of preparation was tea.
