RESUMO:

Eugenol, constituent of clove essential oil, is a substance that has demonstrated important pharmacological properties, in addition, its derivatives have antiparasitic, antifungal, antimicrobial and larvicidal actions, making them attractive to industries. However, a large part of the industrial chemical synthesis processes were developed using methodologies that could cause environmental damage, therefore, for the development of chemical processes that are less harmful to the environment, heterogeneous catalysis has been shown to be an alternative. promising in obtaining chemical compounds for various applications. Among these catalysts, ZSM-5 and Beta zeolites, acidic solids have been widely studied in esterification reactions, with promising results. Therefore, this work aimed to synthesize ZSM-5 and Beta zeolites and use them in eugenol esterification reaction, in order to evaluate the ester obtained in biological activities. The catalysts were synthesized, followed by ion exchange and the characterizations were determined by X-ray diffraction techniques, chemical analysis and textural analysis by N2 adsorption, which indicated that these materials were successfully obtained. The esterification reactions were carried out with a 2:1 molar ratio of eugenol, acetic anhydride and 3% catalyst (ZSM-5 and Beta with and without ion exchange), with stirring and at a temperature of approximately 90 C°. Through the technique of thin layer chromatography (TLC) it was possible to monitor the course of the procedure, in which it was possible to observe the formation of the product as a function of time. The methods used in this work are efficient for obtaining catalysts and obtaining eugenyl acetate, since its synthesis with Beta and ZSM-5 zeolites and without solvents makes the process less harmful to the environment.
